The passion of dance is much more than movement. Anyone that has felt the joy of dance knows it is contagious. We realize that not everyone likes the same dance styles or music. At A+ After School Dance we offer a variety of dance styles. This allows everyone to be able to express themselves through their favorite dance style. It also enables students to try out a new style to express themselves. We are here to help you fulfill your dream and/or your child’s dream to dance. From the aspiring professional dancers to the youngest boys and girls, as well as adults taking dance for the very first time, everyone should be able to feel the enjoyment of dance.

Meet Our Instructors

Ms. Angela

Angela’s love for dance began as a young child while attending performances of international ballet companies in San Francisco with her family. Her first ballet performance was by the Kirov ballet. She immediately wanted to begin dance training. Ballet was the first of many types of dance to follow such as jazz and tap. A love of dance combined with theater allowed her to dance in musical theater productions such as The King and I and Camelot.

After marriage and two children she began teaching dance in Corona, California approximately thirty-five years ago at Mason’s Dance Unlimited. While teaching at several other studios in Corona she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in theater and Dance from Cal State Fullerton. While there she was invited to participate in a modern dance program at the Martha Graham studio in New York. She felt privileged to be under the watchful eye of such an American icon in dance-Martha Graham.

Education called again and Angela was accepted into the master’s program in dance at UCLA. There she continued with ballet and modern dance and discovered West African Dance and Bharata Natyam. Education continued to call and she completed a teaching credential and a master’s degree in reading. She began teaching elementary school in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. During physical education it wasn’t kickball but dance. This led to dancing with the entire school for the Nutcracker in December and Earth Day in April. It evolved into an after school dance program. After retiring from CNUSD she continued the after school dance program including the Nutcracker and Earth Day performances annually. Students in CNUSD have been enjoying these performances for approximately seventeen years. The majority of these students never danced before joining the after school dance program. Angela’s experience and education has enhanced her ability to choreograph dances and shows for over thirty-five years.

Angela enjoys participating in dance almost anywhere. She has danced with the Batwa-pygmies in Rwanda and Uganda. She believes the variety of dance styles enables a student to be well rounded as a dancer and as a person.

Ms. Alysa

Dance has always been a part of Alysa’s life. She grew up taking dance classes at various dance studios in Southern California, including Westside Ballet in Santa Monica, and Riverside Ballet Arts in Riverside. Alysa has been dancing in various Nutcracker ballets nearly every year since the age of 5, from a tiny little Mother Ginger dancer to the Sugar Plum Fairy. Alysa studied at Chicago Ballet Company, and has performed as a guest dancer at Cal State Fullerton College and UCLA. She has performed in many recitals, dance performances, musical theater and other productions throughout Southern California during all the years of her life thus far. Dancing and “the Arts” have always been an important part of Alysa’s family, from her mom, to her and her brother, to her two daughters.

Alysa has been teaching at dance studios in Riverside County for over 15 years combined. She still enjoys performing, choreographing, and taking classes in different styles of dance. Alysa has taken great pride in teaming up with Angela, her mom, to teach and choreograph for students in The Nutcracker and Earth Day performances every year in the Corona-Norco school district. Alysa’s passion is teaching ballet and jazz classes. She tries to lead by example, and still teaches “Pointe” classes on pointe! Technique and keeping students engaged in dance are her top priorities. She believes that repetition and learning new steps in any dance style is important to a dancers self confidence. Alysa’s thought is that “a dancers love of dance comes from positive reinforcement, and knowing that if you strive to be better, you will be better, not only as a dancer, but as a person as well.”

Ms. Sami

Sami has been dancing since she was five years old. She has grown up experiencing and taking classes in musical theater, ballet, tap, jazz, acrobatics, contemporary, hip-hop, modern and lyrical around the Corona area. Sami spent her high school years on the Dance Team, and as an adult joined a Hip-Hop crew called Natural St8, competing around California. Her passion is Contemporary Ballet. Sami has enjoyed performing in recitals, Hip-Hop competitions, dance competitions, Nutcrackers and various productions throughout the area.

Sami has been teaching for over 4 years. She loves to dance and choreograph anywhere possible. She enjoys attending “flash mobs” for different children’s causes, anywhere, anytime. Sami was a great asset to our community in high school, as she was part of the Corona Youth Advisory Council. Sami currently attends Cal State San Bernardino, and is obtaining a degree in Child Development, with a minor in Child Psychology. She loves teaching a variety of ages, from the little 3 year olds to the teenage dancer!

Patrick won first place at the choreographer competition called Come Up Workshop on April 9th, 2017 and has competed at Vibe Dance Competition, The Bridge Dance Competition, Ultimate Brawl and Body Rock.

Patrick has been dancing for nine years. He began with breakdancing, popping, and isolation until 2010 when he joined Kreative Movement which is now Kava Kids. He went to the University of California at Irvine and dance with Common Ground Dance. He is trained under many choreographers including Brian Puspos, Keone Madrid, Chris Martin, Vinh Nguyen, Kevin Nguyen, and many more.
